Protection Specialist - Alabama Alabama
Power Company is seeking a Fire Protection Specialist for
generating plant in the Birmingham area
This position ensures the plant is fully prepared to prevent
fires utilizing existing protection systems and by implementing
new technologies, respond to fires in a timely manner and
minimize any damage that fires may cause. Responsibilities
include providing oversight for all fire protection functions,
monitoring and reviewing the maintenance strategy for all fire
protection equipment, interfacing with local fire departments,
coordinating the plant's fire protection emergency response
requirements and coordinating repairs made by plant maintenance
personnel, on-site contractors and outside contractors and
vendors.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops short term and long term vision and goals for the Plant
Miller Fire Protection PlanSystem Owner of Fire Protection
system with budget responsibility
Ensures weekly, monthly, semi annual and annual completion of
inspections on all fire protection equipment, including
functional testing of critical fire alarm systems
Maintains documentation to support compliance requirements
Manages all fire protection related audits, including those
performed by fire insurance carriers, internal personnel and
external personnel
Provides support and training for plant personnel in the Fire
Protection area
Issues all required reports, such as Fire Protection Status
reports
Serves on local community fire protection committees as
necessary
Supports team members in the areas of safety, health,
environmental and laboratory.
Coordinates fire protection emergency response requirements to
ensure the plant meets all safety, regulatory and site specific
expectations
Identifies gaps in current policies, procedures and/or equipment
and develops appropriate responses with follow up
Contract coordinator for on site ash management contractor
Champion housekeeping efforts
Champion the 'Target Zero' mindset within the plant
Safety Task Force membership
Job Requirements:
High School education required
Extensive knowledge of National Fire Protection Association
regulations strongly preferred
Engineering degree is preferred, with Industrial Fire Experience
or equivalent related experience.
Training certification for Emergency Response training
instructor preferred
Effective oral and written communications skills required
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with other
plant employees and departments to protect the plant equipment
and facilities required
Experience in power plant or related industrial facility
operations, maintenance and fuels preferred.
Willingness to work outside regular business hours and be on
call on 24 hour basis as needed is required.
