The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is being built in Saudi Arabia as an international, graduate-level research university dedicated to inspiring a new age of scientific achievement in the Kingdom, the region, and beyond. The environmentally sensitive campus, located on 3,200 acres on the Red Sea at Rabigh, is set to open in September 2009.
KAUST is seeking a Safety & Health Manager to be responsible for providing comprehensive services for all occupational health and safety and community safety issues for KAUST. Services will include consulting; training, educational and awareness programs; auditing and inspection; and emergency response. The incumbent will manage the health and safety staff within the Department of Health, Safety and Environment; develop and recommend policies and procedures for all health and safety issues; establish and execute programs for health and safety to ensure risks are adequately recognized, evaluated and controlled to acceptable levels; and promote compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.

Partial list of responsibilities include:

• Manage the Health and Safety staff within the HSE Department
• Provide central coordination and administrative direction for the KAUST Safety and Health programs
• Develop, recommend and implement KAUST safety and health standards, procedures, policies and programs
• Represent KAUST regarding safety and health issues in contacts with regional and international agencies, as well as the Kingdom's government, industrial and public sectors.

Qualifications include:

• BA/BS Degree preferably in engineering or the life or physical sciences, MA/MS Degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Safety or Public Health or Certification in one of the EHS disciplines (CIH, CSP, CHP) or PE (professional engineer) or equivalent standing preferred
• Minimum of fifteen (15) years of successful experience in safety and health (EHS), experience at a research university or a Research and Development organization is strongly preferred
• A minimum of ten (10) years experience at an administrative or supervisory level managing a broad range of Health and Safety functions.
