Work Direction Process Improvement Manager (Seattle, WA)
Learning, performing and supervising tasks well is
critical to avoiding errors that lead to incidents and
injuries. This position will oversee the creation of
guidance materials and tools that enable perfect
understanding, execution and supervision of operations
responsibilities under the Amazon.com Safety &
Environmental Excellence Program. Partnering with FC
leadership, this position will create, test, and refine
tools that enable leaders to fulfill their safety and
environmental responsibilities efficiently and
effectively. This position will partner with Learning to
develop and test simplified visual-based task guidance
through a redesign of the SOP template that seeks to
prevent human error for Amazon’s core FC processes.
Using incident data and proactive risk assessments, (s)he
will guide each FC in identifying and maintaining a queue
of the Top 3 Safety Kaizen opportunities aimed at reducing
risk. Working with safety and operations leadership, this
position will monitor, capture and promote the progress
made in Kaizens that reduce risk and assist in sharing
best practices throughout the network.
This position will monitor the quality of incident and
near miss investigations, using the results to understand
the link between human performance and supervision
failures and the occurrence of injuries. Performing trend
analyses using data from the root cause analyses will
ensure that process improvements are targeted where the
greatest risk reduction opportunities exist.
Responsibilities include:
- Understand the safety and environmental responsibilities
in each region where Amazon.com has fulfillment center
operations;
- Participate in Amazon’s global migration from
text-based SOPs to visual-based SOP’s and visual
workplace standards for core FC processes;
- Assist in communication, training, and execution of the
Safety & Environmental Excellence - Program throughout
the global operations network;
- Audit and critique safety training, identify and correct
deficiencies through improved content;
- Embed visual-based instruction to maximize retention or
safety training;
- Create a template for simplified guidance materials that
describe performance and oversight of core S&E
processes and tasks, with a dependence on visual aids;
- Create, test, and refine tools that ensure the success
of Amazon leaders in carrying out the responsibilities
under the Safety & Environmental Excellence Program;
- Analyze, report, and communication global safety
performance metrics;
- Partner with corporate and field safety personnel to
assist with the implementation of best practices in safety
and environmental matters throughout the Amazon network
This position will be filled by an individual who is
passionate and knowledgeable about safety and
environmental responsibilities in one or more of the
regions where Fulfillment Centers (FCs) are located (Asia,
EU or US).
Qualifications:
- Experience developing safety and/or environmental
policy, training, and/or quality assurance materials;
- 3+ years of increasing responsibilities in
manufacturing, production, or service operations;
- Experience implementing lean principles and process
improvement in an operational environment.
- Willing to travel, up to 20%
